Whenever I ask students in my childbirth class whether they think raw or cooked vegetables are healthiest they always say, "raw!" right away. It has been the teaching for many years that cooking destroys all the nutrients in your produce, but the opposite has been found to be true. Cooking liberates nutrients that otherwise pass through undigested. I have heard many doctors from fertility specialists to nutritionists warning people to stop eating only raw food. The below video is a great one to watch as you try to understand the controversy. Please watch the whole debate and see if you still think eating only raw fruits and vegetables is the way to go.
I think some of the confusion is because many people are trying to lose weight. Raw food would be good for someone trying to feel full without adding calories. However, pregnant women don't have the luxury of not getting all the nutrition they can from their food. Since they have nausea at the beginning and their stomach is compressed by the baby at the end, they need nourishment from every bite. So please save your raw fruits and veggies for after you get your nutrition for the day.
